Personal Statement On Personal Identity - 2340 Words

I will be writing on the topic of personal identity. Personal identity is the issue whether a person whose growing, changes and life experiences changes one self’s. It can possibly be that a person may still remain with the same personal identity over the time only if that person doesn’t lose their full memory. In that case are we the same person we used to be even if we lost our memory? In the other hand, are we going to be the same person in the future? Personal identity can be either classified or define in the soul/mind or in the body. According to Locke, our personal identity is defined in the mind and according to Reid who critiques Locke theory by stating that if his theory is correct then someone conscious can move from one person to another person. They both have very different perspectives on this certain topic in which I will be talking about furthermore. Vulnerability Assessment of Northern Ghana to Climate...

Low literacy levels by default means people are excluded from high paid job because they lack the skills and competence. In the rural communities, the lack of knowledge greatly limits farmers’ capacity to access information as well as the use of new technology (Rakodi 1999). The majority of people are smallholder farmers with low agricultural income which is insufficient to purchase efficient farm implement, viable seeds, fertilizers, build storage facilities, nor invest in rainfed agriculture. The limited assets and entitlements exposes communities to further risk and reduces their ability to cope to the impact of climate variability. The results support the findings of Antwi-Agyei et al. (2012) study of the ten regions of Ghana using different indicators which showed the three regions in northern Ghana as most vulnerable to drought. With limited livelihood diversification in the regions, many rural household have embraced migration as an adaptive strategy to cope with the impact of harsh climatic conditions such as drought and floods. Permanent and temporary migrations from rural north to urban south are becoming important livelihood strategies, often viewed as a pathway out of poverty and to improve household income sources and individual well-being (Assan and Obeng 2009). Van der Geest (2010) argued that remittances from rural–urban migrants currently contribute much more to rural household income than incomes from agriculture in sheer size and importance, as persistentShow MoreRelatedVulnerability Assessment of Northern Ghana to Climate Variability778 Words   |  3 PagesFor vulnerability analysis, we first normalised the various indicators by carrying standardisation procedure to ensure uniformity and comparability among the indicators (Vincent 2004). Alfred Adler essays

Alfred Adler essays Alfred Adler born 1870 and died 1937), was an Austrian psychologist and psychiatrist, born in Vienna, and educated at Vienna University. After leaving the university, he studied and was associated with Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis. In 1911 Adler left the orthodox psychoanalytic school to found a neo-Freudian school of psychoanalysis. After 1926 he was a visiting professor at Columbia University, and in 1935 he and his family moved to the United States. In his analysis of individual development, Adler stressed the sense of inferiority, rather than sexual drives, as the motivating force in human life. According to Adler, conscious or subconscious feelings of inferiority (to which he gave the name inferiority complex), combined with compensatory defense mechanisms, are the basic causes of psychopathological behavior. The function of the psychoanalyst, furthermore, is to discover and rationalize such feelings and break down the compensatory, neurotic will for power that they engender in the patient. Adler's works include The Theory and Practice of Individual Psychology (1918) and The Pattern of Life (1930). Alfred Adler studied personality around the time of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung but developed very different ideas (Cloninger, 1996). Although he changed his theory many times during his lifetime, he always believed people had control over their lives and made choices concerning themselves. He named his theory Individual Psychology because he felt each person was unique and no previous theory applied to all people. Adlers theory is comprised primarily of four aspects: striving towards superiority, the unity of personality, the development of personality, and psychological health, which includes intervention. Motivation of Actions Adler believed the main goal of all people is to move to a better way of life, although he admits the ways to achieve this goal varies among people (Cloninger, 1996). He first use...

Net Censorship essays

Net Censorship essays Most of us have used it. Most of us find it useful. Some of us find it entertaining. Some of us find it offensive. It is the Internet. The Internet has dramatically changed our society. It brings together people and their ideas from all around the world in a short amount of time. It is expanding daily to allow new ideas and thoughts to be transmitted quickly and easily with the single click of a button. One can find information on almost any subject there. Yet many people are trying to censor it. The Internet contains racist thoughts, sexually explicit material and much more inappropriate material. But who is it inappropriate for and why should it be censored? In 1996 the Communications Decency Amendment was passed by congress. This amendment imposed a $100,000 fine or a 2-year jail term on anyone who used the Internet to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass anyone else. Pro-censors believed the act to be necessary in order to extend the standards of decency to the new telecommunications device. Anti-censors thought the amendment was acting like the thought police. Recently though the Supreme Court overturned the Communications Decency Act in the civil case of Reno v. ACLU. This new law states that the Internet deserves the same level of speech protection as books or other printed material. Even with this new law in effect many people are still trying and some are succeeding at censoring the Internet. They are creating schemes to block and rate the net. A meeting recently took place at the White House about this subject. Several industry leaders and the government agreed to try to originate a variety of systems to block and regulate controversial online speech. Despite the Supreme Court these leaders are inching toward the dangerous and incorrect understanding that the Internet is like television and should be rated and/or censored. During this meeting many announcemen ...

Ethics Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Ethics Paper - Essay Example If throwing one overboard saves me, then I would do so without hesitation. The act would not even bring into consideration whether the other three left with me on the boat are saved or not; as long as I am saved, the others can be in any condition possible. But such an egoistic attitude is often considered unethical in social interactions. If everyone acts for the sole benefit of oneself without any thought for one’s surroundings (or neighbours), then the social contract – as described by Thomas Hobbes – would break down and society would cease to exist. On the other extreme, a completely altruistic approach would make me act entirely for the good of others, even if it implies that I would be harmed in the process. Thus, if one of the five people on the boat needs to be thrown overboard, I would jump off myself to save the other four. However, both the approaches above are not logically based on cogent grounds, and therefore, it is suggested that the situation is analysed not through these two extremes, but through other justified ethical theories. The utilitarian theory, founded by Bentham and taken further by Mill, claims that an ethical act is one that maximises society’s happiness as a whole. It is analogous to a communist philosophy where individual elements and motives are disregarded for overall social benefit. Going by this theory alone, the act of throwing one person overboard to save the other four is ethically justified.

Professional Educators Making A Difference Essay - 1

Professional Educators Making A Difference - Essay Example The professional educators are therefore bringing about a much needed difference not only within their own lives but also within the entities of the ones who are studying under them or with them. Their excellence is being continuously supplemented and the credit for the same goes on to their shoulders and the institutions which are making professional education a possibility without any doubt (Mearman, 2006). The professional educators are bringing about a difference within adult education which was not experienced in the past. There is a definitive difference that is being seen with their measures and the studies that they have undertaken (Ramey, 2011). The on-the-job training as well as the in-school training has brought dividends to just about anyone who is related with the field of professional education in one or the other capacity (Buchen, 2005).
